Gas

Uncontrollable bouts with gas...
I can relate to the symptoms I have read...
Splenda was like a kick in the stomach...
I can't believe that I have been poisoning myself ...
I am not happy with the results...
What a terrible mistake!...
I started using Splenda in small doses...
What can only be termed as explosive bowels...
It sounded like my gall bladder...
I very nearly had surgery!
They should put this warning on the box!!
I cannot walk or stand I am in so much pain...
I have had uncontrollable urges for candy and sweets...
I feel that I was misled...
He did many blood tests...
Tell that to my suffering abdominal tract!
I am outraged...
I started to put it together a few days ago...
I am not myself anymore. What is wrong with me?
I figured out it had to be this product...
These symptoms disrupt my everyday life...
The pain is almost unbearable...
That whole Splenda experience was very unfortunate...
I will have terrible gas and diarrhea...
Severe headaches, abdominal pain, gas, nausea...
The diarrhea keeps appearing daily...
Massive stomach cramps and gas...
Sucralose is not for me...
I'm going to return it to the store...
I feel completely misled...
It was pass gas or explode!
I switched to Coffee-Mate Carb-Select ...
I have been drinking Diet-Ride sodas...
I saw an advertisement for Pop Secret microwave kettle corn...
I thought I was going to pass out the pain was so intense...
I had been enjoying Crystal Light candies...
I felt kind of like I was spaced-out...
I was eating Blue Bunny ice cream with Splenda in it...
I bought a bag of Carbolite jellybeans...
I was having excessive gas and belching...
Too dizzy and lightheaded to drive...
With Splenda you certainly do not need a laxative...
Splenda has caused me to pass gas so loud...
I also had a headache and a little lightheadedness...
It is just awful...
Hours afterward, I began having a headache, serious gas...

Add my name to the petition, so to speak. I've never been a fan of artificial sweeteners, but in a recent attempt to slide the kids from too much sugar towards healthy eating, and reduce my own caloric intake, I have been trying them. I argue with my friends all the time about Splenda and NutraSweet -- maybe they don't get problems but I sure do. Anti-social air quality !!

I just recently realized that Splenda is to blame for my severe bouts with gas, diarrhea, and related illnesses. I'm not sure if anyone else has already posted this somewhere, but I also just recently realized that Splenda and Pepcid AC are associated with the same parent company. That seems to be a bit of a conflict of interest considering all of these physical issues! Thanks for letting me vent...

In my frustration with excessive gas (painful, loud, awful) I started to research side effects of artificial sweeteners. I have Splenda every day in my coffee (1-2 cups), on oatmeal or other cereals, even use it to sweeten spaghetti sauce. After reading this information, I'm definitely going to remove it for a week and see how it affects my gastrointestinal system. I'm thrilled that I might not be the gassy person I thought I was!!

I've been dieting for four weeks now. The gas and super soft stools started one week into the diet. I initially thought it was just a reaction to all the fiber I'm taking in. However, it's continued to get worse, rather than better. I saw my doctor today and she SUGGESTED that I COMPLETELY eliminate artificial sweeteners from my diet. Including Splenda!! I already knew my body can't handle phenylalanine (previous crystal light experience), but now I can't even do Splenda! What's a body to do? Get fat on the real sugar, I guess!

Stevia is a natural alternative to sugar. We haven't heard of any complaints with that yet. Many grocery stores carry it, though it's not always sold next to the sugar and Splenda.

"Too good to be true" to say the least!!! As many others the first of the year I started my diet and lost 20lbs.!!! I attributed that loss to the new wonder sweetner, that I could not have done it without Splenda!!!! Well in loosing weight smaller clothes should be fitting better??!! Bloating and side cramps so bad keeping me up at nights feeling like my apendix were about to explode!!! My big joke with my daughter was me running around here and there singing to her "I'm gassy" in the tune of "I'm bossy"
I was using it in my tea, coffee, fruit etc. Even got my 9 year old hooked!!! Well she has been having stomach aches too! And that is where I draw the line! I'm a little worried about going back to natural sugar but dont really see I have no choice!! Thanks for all the information posted I learned alot!!

My husband and I both had the same reaction to Splenda. Lots and lots and lots of gas. Pretty much right away. And we were eating very little of it - he had it with his morning tea, and I had it when using Riccola sugar free lozenges. We stopped using it, the gas stopped. Pretty much right away. It took us several rounds before we figured it out (we are slow). Now we use Stevia, and so far, no problems of any kind.

Don't beat yourself up for not connecting Splenda to your ailments right away. Slow diagnosis is the most common symptom of all. You should be fine with Stevia. We haven't heard any complaints yet.

This is the worst sweetener out there. My husband and I decided to stop drinking soda and switched to the flavored waters. We would drink several bottles a day thinking "wow, this is healthy"....WRONG! We now have symptoms of severe gas, indigestion and other G.I issues. After researching what it could be we now believe the sucralose in the water among other items we eat. This is crazy how something on the market can cause all these symptoms in consumers. We now are drinking plain water and will refrain from buying anything with Splenda. SO many items have it in it that consumers REALLY need to read labels. I just wish we figured out the cause sooner. Hopefully things will get better soon once Splenda is cut out of our diet : )

Starting at 4am this morning I was having extreme bouts of gas, the kind that could end a marriage (thank g-d I'm single, lol), the kind of gas that forces the dog to leave the room in fear. Splenda is the saboteur of my stomach alright. Last night after my workout, I hadn't eaten anything since 3pm, so I decided to go with the unhealthy choice of going to Taco Bell. I've had taco bell in past of course, but nothing on that menu could've given me the kind of gas I had all day. I realized that it was the Splenda-based Edy's Mint Chip ice cream that was causing me to have constant fits of exploding gastrointestinal fumes. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! Made from the worst stuff on earth.

I recently found out I was insulin resistant, borderline diabetic. I bought som splenda chocolate for when I really needed some chocolate. I had a coupe of pieces 2 days in a row, was severly nauseated, severely gassy and had diahrea. I did not go on any meds, I just decided to change my diet, My diet no longer includes Splenda.

I have switched to raw honey to sweeten my hot and cold tea.

Splenda (surcralose) can really cause some people troubles. The first time I had a lite strawberry sweetened by splenda. I had the worst taste in my mouth. The gas and blotting were terrible. I thought the strawberries were bad at first but after a second one about a month later I had the same reaction and attributed to splenda.
Well, that was over a year ago and I haven't thought about it since. Yesterday I grabbed a Jello (no sugar) pudding from the refrigerator. Normally we get the regular but I picked up the wrong stuff. Immediately after eating it I had the worst taste in my mouth. Could not get the taste out of my mouth with anything. Within 30 minutes the gas and blotting were terrible. I will be staying away from splenda.

I'm frustrated. I'm almost ready to get legal help. I ate at a trendy restaurant where a yogurt parfait was featured. It was my wife's birthday and it looked healthy so what the heck... Right after helping her split the dessert, I felt some explosive bowel problems brewing. I immediately checked with the employees and sure enough, I was tricked! The yogurt was some "Light" version with sucrulose. I'm still having issues since almost 3 days ago and they're seemingly worsening as time flies. I have bad gas that will not stop, and I get hemorroids when accidentally ingesting Splenda products. I got on the manager for not disclosing that this poison was in the food which I paid for. I explained that their wrecklessness with my health is no different than failing to display a sign showing what kind of oil is used in french fries for allergen information. By default, nobody should have to assume they're getting some artificial sweetener. It should be sugar. The website of this restaraunt claims to use the "finest ingredients" and "time-proven recipes". This is upsetting. Splenda is not time-proven to say the least. The manager explained that the customers were complaining that the menu needed to be more "healthy" and be rid of the horrible sugar. Well, I do NOT feel healthy right now. When I ingest sucrulose, it puts me out for weeks. I've had it. I may be compelled to get an attorney to settle the matter with the local restaraunt if my condition does not improve in the next day. I've not been able to work efficiently - I'm a music producer that relies on creativity to do my job. When I'm in pain, having constant gas, and also having to sit on the toilet for extended periods of time, it causes me to lose income. It should be a crime to fail to disclose the use of sucrulose in a food menu, let alone use it in food!

I forgot to add to my earlier comment, but I felt this was important. Splenda definitely has a lasting effect on our health, specifically recovery. Ever since intentionally trying Splenda years ago, we found it to cause irreversible damage to our gastrointestinal system. We have IBS and can no longer eat certain foods (mainly spices, jalapenos). We will see a rise in a population with organ failure in the years to come. Taxpayers, prepare to help pay for it!

Indeed, only when the use of Splenda (aka sucralose) costs somebody some serious money will we see the end of it.

OMG! I am already SO grateful for this site. I have even been ordering the stuff by the 700packets sizes directly delivered to my door(and have two of those boxes on hand still) I am NOT going to have any as I too have wondered what in the world has happened to my body(gas galore!) I am only eating about 1500 calories a day but lots of Splenda(daily on yogurt, fruit, cereal in coffee MANY a day) I am now So excited to see if I can make this problem "disappear"!! Will post in a week with results(though I realize it may take a month in my case since I am consuming as many as 10 packets just on my morning oatmeal!) Geez!

I believe Dunkin Donuts (or at least some locations) use Splenda or a related sweetener when you ask for sugar. I say this because I experienced intestinal pain and very foul, distinct smelling gas within a couple hours of drinking their coffee. I'm not lactose intolerant and consume coffee+cream+sugar from other places without issue. As a test, I ordered coffee+cream from DD and added my own sugar from a packet - no problems at all. So I guess the lesson is, don't assume that asking for "sugar" mean you'll get the real deal.

Uh-oh. Thanks for the warning.

Sucralose is used in many products other than Splenda. I finally made the connection between a protein bar that I've been eating for over a year, and the gases that I had. I thought I was just getting old and had problem digesting, some of my friends looked at me like I was joking when I said that (I'm 36 and in good shape), and I realized it must be something else. I had heard about the side effects of Splenda so I was not taking any. But when I looked closer, I realized it was the sucralose that caused it, and it is used in many products and not under the Splenda brand name. It is used even more widely in Europe, so read the labels if you travel or consume imported products.

I've been on Weight Watchers for five years, and initially used lots of Splenda with no ill effects. Within the last year, however, I've found that I can't touch the stuff. I get excruciating cramps, bloating to the point where I have to undo my pants, and eventually diarrhea. It's awful. I can consume some aspartame in moderation, but the tiniest bit of Splenda leaves me doubled over in pain.

I am so mad too. I went to a "frosted java" place near my doctor office to grab a quick something to hold me over till dinner. I specifically asked if the banana bread had artificial sweetner in it and the employee said no that they only use real sugar. So I bought it and ate if and went in to my dr office. Within 10 to 15 min I had the worst stomach ache and gas! I am livid. Now I don't even want to go back to that doctors office! I am so upset that I was given wrong information and I was put in that position!

Oyyyy I could just cry right now.... for 3 days I've been having terrible stabbing intestinal pains, HUUUUGE volumes of gas and burping and right side pain that feels like gallbladder pain (except I don't have a gallbladder). I'm so glad to know it's something I can fix. I am 8 days into the South Beach diet and have been using hard candies with artificial sweetener. I'm so glad to know I can make this pain stop and that it's not a stomach virus that I thought it was.

I just made brownies with Splenda for the first time and had just about the worst gas of my life which lasted about 12 hours - loud and smelled terrible- horrible digestive upset- do not use this sweetener- something is really wrong with it- my 2 year old spit out one bite of the brownie made with splenda-i figure it was his instincts kicking in telling him not to eat it- symptoms resolved when I threw out the brownies and stopped eating them!
